Well planting is going pretty slow around here. Have been getting alot of little showers once we get going, just enough to shut us down for a couple days, i'm not complaining though because it is better then nothing! Anyways we still have 120 acres of dryland to get in the ground and then we will start sunflowers. I have been putting in some time strip tilling when I can. I got a few pictures of the strip tiller, more to come soon. Hired hand did this.. I had to do the rest of the field with this little curve Stopped for lunch. Once we get going again i'm going to get some of the planter. Hopefully I can get a few of the strip tiller in action when i start doing sunflower ground.

Thanks guys. I'm loving the 4955. Last summer i was summerfallowing with it and figured out its out pulling the 4850 pulling the field cultivator by about .5 to 1 mph faster. We figured it would match up with this strip tiller about right and 5 mph would be fast enough for it but it will do 6.5 easily and you still can't tell there is anything behind you. I kind of wish we would have went with a 12 row now that I know how well that tractor is pulling, but I guess we will just have to upgrade in the future.

Sharp Rigs! That would be a fun 4955 to run. Why not the 4850 on the planter? Trey

Thanks for all the comments guys.
Hoss - We are putting on our nitrogen with the strip tiller, this applies it so it will be below the seed for later use while we put on the starter fertilizer with the planter to get the plant going. Here are the 3 main advantages of a strip tiller. 1. Create a seedbed that warms quickly, 2. Provide optimum seed-to-soil contact for enhanced germination and vigorous early plant growth, and 3. Make it easy for plant roots, moisture and nutrients to move freely throughout the soil. On top of those we find it good for our operation because it cuts any residue we have for the planter in one pass and still maintains a partial cover.
Trey - Dad actually wanted to put the 4850 on the planter but the main two problems with that are we don't have any saddle tanks that will fit it, and while those other two tractors have been planting I have been using the 4850 to disc and field cultivate a couple new wheat fields we have this year that were in ridges from row crops so we couldn't chem-fallow them and without the 4850 they would be green right now. We are probably going to get some tanks this winter and have it on the planter next year though.
Brad - Sunflowers are a good crop for this area because they are prone to drier conditions which we have, plus they work into our dryland rotation well. Right now we are starting a continuous rotation of wheat, corn, sunflowers, and then a year of chem-fallow. Also the market for sunflowers is very good right now.

No problem hoss lol.
Thanks hardtimefarmer. Yes it is an 8 row strip till. The guy we bought it from actually did have his planter mounted on the back of this one, but we aren't strip tilling everything and we want to get on the nitrogen with the strip tiller and starter with the planter so that is why we keep them seperated.
