Saskatchewan Seeding May 2011

This was just a random picture on my camera, saw this pair (on their way to a dealership?) on my way to work one morning.



I took a drive to the lake this last weekend to help dad build the cabin, it is a 3 hour drive through prime Saskatchewan farmland. I don't stop very often but when I spotted a couple Shelbourne headers at a dealership along the way I grabbed the binders, spun a uball and went back for a look.





There is always old harvester combines on the lot so I am guessing that is where they came from since they don't work well with most of our crops and climate so they are VERY rare up here.

We had to run down to my uncles farm one morning so I got a look at his newest toy.


He learned last year when I had to swath his lentils he needed a better HC sprayer, his little SprayCoupe just wasn't cutting it anymore since he was direct seeding 90% of his crops now and just started growing lentils last year, both of which require more spraying then he was used to.

Before the SprayCoupe he bought 5 years ago this was his spraying rig.



You can see the upgrade in the last 6 years!

There was a little less seeding going on than there should be, this last 12 months has been a very wet!

It is a "dry" lake bed, 7 out of 10 years they get a crop in and off, I don't think anyone with land on it is getting it in this year!

These guys have a pair of these rigs, I think they farm 8-9,000 acres, from the looks of things most of which are not seeded yet this year...

You got some great pictures. That farming style is so much different then it is here that we never even hardly see a 4wd or air seeder around here so its nice to see the change.

Great pics Clay. Wish I had more time to go for a drive for pics. Lots of great pic potential in my area too, but when your the guy in the tractor.....

We demo'd one of those CIH Patriot's (same as first pic) a couple years back. We liked it so much we immediately went and bought a John Deere . Wasn't really impressed by it, but I hear guys like them too, so maybe it's just me.

Like the pic of the Ford/Versitile pulling a Seedhawk drill, Deere cart and a liquid fertilizer cart pulling up the rear. No brand loyalty there...... love it.

where were those two sprayers on the trailer at? And did you see the name on the door? Great pics by the way. We are hopefully going to start getting going again here in the next couple days.

They were in Saskatoon one morning, Didn't catch if there was a name on the truck or not.

My uncle was actually thinking about getting a Deere last year but I had been doing a lot of reading on combine forums about sprayers and told him to look at a Patriot. His response was "I've bought Case all my life and as soon as I start to think about getting a Deere you want me to stick with Case"
He does seem to like it though.

I had to laugh at that picture when I got home and saw the 4 different brands also, Deere must make a good tank to pair with a Seedhawk you see that combo a lot.

I think that may have been some friends of ours. Looks like there truck and trailer and i know they ran sprayers like that. Do you know where redhead equiptment is?

Back when we were thinking of getting a high clearance, we had tried out a friends Deere and really liked it and our local CIH rep heard about it so brought out this new Patriot for us to desicate lentils with. Demo turned sour when we had to go back and re-spray with the Deere later because the electronics and pulsing nozzle thing was acting up and shutting down without warning. We sent it back after 250-300acres. Turns out our neighbor saw us with it and must've figured it was the way to go. They wound up buying that exact sprayer the next spring. I keep thinking every time I see em sitting in the field with it while we're spraying hard next door, "they can keep it" .

Down here the Deere tank is pretty common but not to the extent of Bourgault. Guys put the Bourgault tanks on everything. I only know of one guy who runs a Flexi-Coil tank on his Seedhawk and it's a secondary tank, pulled behind the original (goofy) Seedhawk tank (he custom seeds for guys so makes use of the added capacity).

Where in the province did you manage to find smooth enough highway to snap pics while driving? We have water in the sloughs and low spots but nothing like over there.
