I'm kinda looking around at a few combines here and there. Mostly 7720, 8820s. My question is how hard would it be to change out the spreader to a chopper? Most of the ones I look at have the spreader and I want the chopper. I didn't know how hard it would be or if it was even possible.
Thanks!

Well im not too sure about a John Deere, but back when we put a chopper on our L2 it wasn't too hard. The hardest part was finding one for sale. If you get one it should come with the mounts. Just unbolted all the straw spreader parts, bolt on the chopper mounts on the inside of the straw walker area, and slide the chopper on.

From my experience with 7720s it shouldn't be too hard. I think the spreader slides off and the chopper would slide on. There may be some additional wiring for the chopper alarm though. I am not 100 percent sure but I don't think it would be very hard to do.

the chopper would be extremely heavy to handle with out a loader or forklift. In my Area most poeple just run choppers all the time. the deeres would just slide on,and just four bolts on each side. and the wire foe the alarm.

We always would put the chopper on a flatbed pickup which is just shorter than the rear of the machine. Two big guys can pick up a chopper off of a 7720. It is all that they want though. 4 guys is a lot nicer. ;D
