We started Seeding May 3. After 14 days, 175 tractor hrs, 3480 acres it all came to an end. Problem is it took till Monday (June 6) to find 14 nice days dry enough to seed on. After too many days of rain and wet weather, we caught a break for a couple days of no moisture. By Monday we had a beautiful day with another ugly forecast for Tuesday (yesterday) and beyond. So..... with 170 acres remaining on some of our best and flatest heavy land we determined, wet or not this was our one chance to finish seeding for this year. The drill got turned out of the ground as far as we dared, the rates got bumped up, and we got out and mudded in some flax. Unfortunately there's still quite a few guys with seeding to do around here though. The forecast didn't lie either because we got another 2" of rain yesterday in our already saturated land.
Took the camera along for some final seeding day pics. Hope you enjoy.
Heading out to the field Monday morning, the rolling finally got caught up and finished as well. Tractor and roller made it back to the farm and parked in the bin yard.
Not a big fan seeding in the mud, but desperate times call for desperate measures..... and I hate to get all this way only to fall 170 acres shy of complete.
Finished up headed back to the yard. Coming in from the west. Lentils on the right, Durum on the left.
Had 25 acre triangle shaped field left to do coming up out of our big slough (lake...lol). Had to drive almost 5 miles around to spend less than an hour to seed and then drive back.
Driving around looking to the NW
Here's crossing a dirt causeway at the east end of the slough. It was pretty soft.
Pulled in, here's a veiw of the farm from across the pond, looking SW.
Neighbors were working next door at the same time.
