Well we were at my cousins house looking at his grain cart he might sell, and asked my dad and I, wanna see my new toy? I guessed. 6030? No. 5020? No. And as he opened the door is was a 8850. A 1983 John Deere 8850. He says in the next 10 years that it will be a collectors item, thats part of the reason he bought it. Hes going to pull his 2700 JD disk ripper and he said he might let me run it a bit this fall. i hope it happens. It has 5K hours on the orignal JD V8 Diesel. Some are good, some are bad...he let me fire her up and she purred like a walrus....lol It will be cool to see his 9330 and 8850 together, and his 8320R. Its in great shape. Heres some photos.

Cool. It would be fun to run. 5000 hours on the original V8 it is probably due to blow up any time now. I have never actually seen one in person. If you run it you better get us some action pics and videos. ;D

I have never heard much good about V8s in tractors. They didn't tend to last. I have heard a lot of bad about the 903 Cummins that were used in a lot of tractors as well.

Cool! I love the older 4wds. Dad says he made a mistake selling our Steiger wildcat III because it was a classic.

Looks good, I agree one day it will be a collectors item. As you don't find many still around, and with the V8 engine. As few got a different engine.
I would love to hear it run.
I heard about V8s not holding up well. However some do. The Wehunts put alot of hours on a 3208 Cat in an Oliver 2255. As that was their main tillage tractor. And later on it was used for drilling a no till drill. The end of that Oliver wasn't the engine. But the transmission. The pipe busted that supplied oil to the bearings and gears went out. And it had a melt down. They also had decent luck with that same engine in NH TR70 and NH TR75 they have. And they just bought a NH TR85 last year with that same engine. The NH TR70 became junk as it was worn out beyond repairs.

That is a nice 8850. Someday I would like to run one, they just seem like a very impressive tractor for its time to me.

The Perkins V8's are one hell of an engine as long as their taken care of. Theres a farm not too far from here that has 3 1155's. And my uncle has a 2775 w. a 640ci V8, all stock but with a Bosch inline P-pump comversion. What a beast! Good amount of hours on her and never been rebilt. Sean

I think that Saab Scaina 400hp V8 was a good engine it was just too much power for the transmission to handle. It was called a hydra shift transmission. Theres a 4994 with a Cummins on tractorhouse.

the old case 4wd trannies were all junk we had a 4690 for 12-14 years had it rebult 3 times and v8 diesels are good for flywheel/horsepower work but when it comes to were lugging and torque are needed you cant beat an inline motor
