They have been staying busy at J&R Farms. Taking care of the cattle is consuming most of their time. The heifers are about 2/3 done calving. The weather has been pretty cooperative so far. The cows are just getting a good start. They just about have the 1270 put back together. They decided they would just rebuild the transmission. So it will be staying around. It's main job is spraying at the moment. Don wants to find an older 4wd to spray with thought so he can have a smoother ride at the high speed that you do when spraying. They also have been wanting to change their fuel tanks around also. They are going to sell the 2 500s on stands. The replaced them with a 1000 and a 1500 on ground tank. The 1000 is for gas and the 1500 is for farm diesel. They are keeping the 2 300 gallon tanks. 1 is for road diesel and the other one will be for blended diesel in the winter. That way they can fill the big tank with summer fuel in the winter to take advantage of the lower prices. Here they are unloading the new barrels.
Here they are set up and ready for filling. They will have to call Rangeland to come out and fill them.
A couple hours of every day consist of feeding the cattle. Here is Don loading up the chuckwagon.
Heading out to feed.
They are also going to be planting some forage oats. They are planning on putting in around 60 acres. So they got the 8630 and CCS out to get them ready. They had to get all the monitors and such put into the tractor. This will be the first time that they have used both pieces of equipment. They bought them in November of last year. They are anxious to try them out. It sounds like they should be able to drill by the end of the week. They wish they had a bigger shop so they could get it inside to get it ready.
That is all for now. Questions and comments welcome.
