With virtually no dealers near me I either have to buy from internet or drive to a show. Since I have only been to one show in the last 20 years or so I'm wondering if prices are better on the internet(by the time you pay shipping) or drive to a show?

i think a show is better not only because you can get better prices but because you can meet vendors behind the websites and screennames, other than that i think the prices are better at shows on alot of things, and you can find older models alot easier at a show. now as far as new toys i think the prices are useually the same minus shipping wether you are at a show or on the internet

You do what you have to do. None of my local dealers want to be bothered with toys. So you don't never see any on their shelves. Plus with no farm toy shows near me as well. I have no choice but to buy on-line. I been doing that for years. To me its worth the few days wait and little extra $ spent to ship them. Best thing to do. Is get a list up of several items when they come out. Or tell them to hold the items until they all come in before shipping. That way it will save you costs.
To me buying on-line is the way to go.

I prefer buying from shows and such, that way I can meet the vendor, get good deals, and I don't have to worry about something breaking during shipping.

I have split hairs and beat this dead horse with my wife over and over. I always prefer a show intenet purchases. Of course it cost money to go to a show, but normally there is a some good buys and you get to see the item up close. Never know what exclty your gettn off the net. Items get broke and lost in the mail and there'sa lways the wait. However, I come across an item on the internet I know is a good price even with shipping totaled in, I buy it.

I prefer to buy at shows. Being from Canada if your only getting one thing, the shipping is just about as much as the toy your getting. And if Canada Customs decides to open your package it is another 25.00 C.O.D waiting for you at the post office. A 20.00 toy can become a 50.00 toy in a hurry. To me it is worth the wait for stuff to arrive at shows and buy them there.

I buy bigger "none rush" things from the show in town since it is only around once a year, otherwise I am driving 3+ hours one way to get to two other shows and all of them are in Jan - March.
Everything else is off the net. With the dollar at or close to par it is pretty good, 10years ago I would double the listed price on the website by the time it got to my door once you add on shipping, customs and a weak dollar.

It depends on how far away the show is or what exactly the toy is your going to be buying. Fortunately most local shows near me are within 1- 1.5 hr away, but I still do buy a lot from the local Dealers as they usually get the new items in before the vendors at shows up here. Sometimes the vendors don't get a new item in for at 6-7 months after the dealers do. I do buy stuff off of the internet as well and that has helped to get some of the more hardier to find items for the collection.
