Cotton Picking

Here is a cotton farmer in the county south of me. I found him out in his field. Most farmers in the area runs the 2 row pickers. But a couple do run the 4 rows.







The units that pick cotton. You see needles with barbs. This is the spindle. They spin very fast and grabs the cotton from the stalk.


Here is a view inside the unit. The Spindle spins next to round discs. These are called the doffer. They brush the cotton off the spindles. And into the vacuum. Where the cotton is shot up into the basket.

Usually you find a level spot for unloading. That way you don't have to worry about tipping over. Now if you was on a hill. It could very possible happen.

Yes, that's so true. About 3 years ago, somebody was unloading a picker basket, & made the mistake of unloading under low hanging utility line. The basket had just touched the power line. The operator was pulling some dirty lint off the basket & was electrocuted. I don't know what brand the picker was, & it doesn't make any difference. This was on flat ground.
