This fall was nice and dry which made for great combining, but made for tough tillage. The ground was so hard from being dry, it made it hard pulling with the chisel plow and plow. Yet when we worked some low spots that have not been touched this year they were so wet it would plug up the disk right away with mud and made it difficult to get good traction when plowing them.
First off some chisel plowing on soybean ground. We were only around 6 inches and pulling about 4.5 mph instead of the desired 8 inches and 6 mph. So here is the Ford 9700 with Ford 131 14 ft chisel plow.
Darn seaguls!!
This year on the corn stalks we disked them prior to plowing. We don't have a stalk chopper and like to plow without doing anything, but the conditions were right and it helped some with the plowing. Got the Ford TW 10 hooked up to the Ford 243 13 ft disk.
While I was disking, my brother was plowing. Some of the pictures are a bit dirty looking because the windows on the tractor were dirty. The 9700 is on the International 720 5-18 plow.
Can't see very well in this next pic, but the front end was picking up off the ground a couple of feet. This was a regular occurrence while plowing and we have 1000 lbs of weight on the front end.
I tried some night pictures, but only got one to work. At least it was the best one with the front end dancing around again.
This concludes our 2011 cropping year. We were done with all tillage before Halloween this year which is the earliest that it has been in the past 12 years. Thanks for looking.
