I have all but signed the papers on a 95' 7200 16 row conservation planter. After talking to a few people about it and saying i would be running it with a 4440 a few guys said it would never be able to run it, some guys said it would have its hands full but it would do it, and some said it wouldn't have a problem. I would get a PTO pump to run the fans so i am not concerned about hydraulic capacity, but from what I've been told a 4440 isn't heavy enough to pull it. I'm not sure where this is coming from since I've pulled a 12 row 7000 with it for years and the 4440 doesn't even act like anything is back there.

We have a 79 4440 that's been turned up to 150 hp. It would know that 16 row is back there for sure IMO. If you don't have a lot of hills, you might be fine. How much dry/liquid fert are you going to have on the planter?
200+hp is more of what I see out here in PA on 16 row planters.

I think you will be able to do it. I think it will have it's hands full though.

We have two fields with some decent hills, but most of our ground is decently flat.

If your ground is mostly flat you won't have any problems. I'm assuming you are a no-till or min-till operation? Also are you running radials and duals?

i'd make sure you got some wieght to it because i know a 4440 is a light tractor compared to a case of similar power

Our friend ran a set-up like that and planted some of our land when we were farming. He was putting out 160 hp put it would still grunt hard. We had moderately hilly land though.

We pulled a 12 row with a 100hp 1070 Case for many years, with liquid.

A 4440 will handle it no problem at all.

I have a nieghbor that runs a 4455 on a 16r and one that has a 4630 on a Kinze 16r with interplant. You are gonna run the fuel through it but it should be find with it just being a 7200 and not something with splitters.

I think you'll be fine, especially if your ground is flat. We rented a 16r 7200 one year when our 8r broke down and pulled it with our 4440 and we're really hilly and it grunted allittle but pulled fine. The only thing I would have done differant is put alot more weight on the front.
