Random spring pics

So spring shop work is well underway and when time allows I've been slowly moving stuff down from the city to the farm as well. Always busy. If it keeps drying like it has I'm tempted to dig out the rock picker and go find all those pesky rocks that seem to grow over the winter.

Couple pics from the road....
One of the few elevators still sporting it's Sask Wheat Pool log from years gone by. This one is at Willows, Sask. 10 miles south of me, I hauled some seed down that direction a few weeks back


Poor pic of a typical old Sask farmyard left to the elements. Arch-rib machine shed with a couple discers and John Deere PT combine sitting around.


Driving to Moose Jaw for a load of house stuff, I finally got a pic of a Coop-Imp Cougar that I keep driving past and always intrigued by. Some day I'm just gonna have to drive in and talk to the guy I guess.


The drill may not have shown up yet but at least something we ordered over the winter has. This transfer auger is sitting at the ready incase one of the tandems break and we're forced to use the semi for filling the air cart at seeding.

Left over projects from last year still sitting on the......welding table. This is the rotor gear box out of a AFX8010. 1st gear went out of it while finishing up combining peas 3 years ago. We just replaced it with the new updated version but I asked to keep the old one to tear apart and fix for a spare (but hope we never need it). Basically just a big 3 spd transmission without reverse. All that is wrong is a broken snap ring so I should really just get her done and off my welding table...



Also on the ongoing project list is this W6 I've been helping my wifes grandfather restore. This is the stage I've got it at now. Some sheet metal, wiring harness, and more painting is still ahead. The goal is to have this one along with a 2nd one that's already complete in my home town's centenial parade later this summer.

Nice. How often do you guys use the transfer? We've had one for 10+ years and barely ever use it. They are nice to have when the trailer can't get over top the augar tho.

Dallas we never used a transfer auger to this point. Only one we had sitting around here was a home made piece of junk from 20 years ago, but being that the semi is here now you never know when you may have to use it for filling the air cart at seeding. It's too tight to get in beside the drill during the rush of seeding so the transfer auger was purchased just in case we need it sort of thing. Felt it was a better way to go than adding a wet kit and a couple of augers to the trailer for the time being.

That makes sense. We had a wet kit on a truck since we got it, could probably count on one hand how many times we used it. That was probably the cheaper route to.

It's interesting to see an old elevator still sporting the pool logo, when the Pool shut down and sold their elevators around here the logos had to be covered, or painted over.

yeah I'm kinda surprised it hasn't been painted yet. It closed back in the mid-late 90's and the rail line was shut down at the same time. I guess no one ever bothered to come back and check that the logo had been covered up. Kinda neat to see it though. Hope it stays that way for a long time to come. I know where the old UGG elevator (or at least the annex from it) from next door wound up too. It was moved to a farm just a few miles from Willows. You can still (barely) see the UGG logo but it's looking a little worse for wear in comparison.

Nice pictures... should be like our yard in a couple weeks time... grandpa doesnt believe in getting things ready till the day before they are needed question: underneith the auger there is plywood... is that a scale??

yep, it's a scale. Came from the old Sask Wheat Pool in Congress back in the 80's when guys were starting to get bigger trucks (tandems). It's a great scale for 3 tons but even the big tandems have to be split weighed now. It doesn't get used much anymore but it is nice to have around if guys are coming to pick up seed themselves.
