I've been busy lately so i have gotten way behind on my journals. Here is my first journal of the year so there is a few changes on the farm that took place over the winter.
First of all, we finally built the new shop we have needed for 5 years! Its 80x45' with a office, loft, fully insulated and with heated floors.
Right now the R62 is in the shop getting a precision rotor installed, and a feederhouse floor modification kit. With these updates she will really be able to eat the wheat this summer.
Im sure you noticed that the 9600 is also in the shop, the reason for this is we are cleaning it up for the dealer to pick up. The 9600 has been a very good machine but this summer the tach hit 4500 hours and we figured its going to start needing alot of rebuilding and it is going to start causing alot of downtime, not to mention with the start of our custom harvesting business last year we would like more capacity. We have been looking at combines all winter long, and we were really hoping to come across a good deal on a R75/R65 Gleaner, and we did find one that we came very close to purchasing but at our local dealer they had just got in a 9750 with only 1100 sep. hours and 1600 eng. hours, with all augers rebuilt and almost every 60 series update. We heard lots of bad things about the 50 series but since it had many of the 60 series updates we decided to give it a shot, not to mention the dealer gave us one heck of a deal. They called up and said they were ready to haul it out, and i told them i would come in and get the corn head to save them a trip, so i did and they followed me out with their semi and pickup.
Dealer headin out with the 9600 and the old flex head, decided to keep our 853 corn head because we are going to buy an adapter for the R62 and run it on there this fall.
Lookin everything over even closer.
Calving is going good, about 80% done so its starting to get slow. Still got all the cows to feed in the morning. Here is the 4430 and feedwagon getting loaded up
Feeding
Spread some manure the other day with the 8310 and 4440.
With the price of fuel compared to chemicals this year figured we would summerfallow some wheat ground instead of spraying it all. Here is the 9530 and 9675 on the discs fueling up and greasing before heading to the field to tear up some wheat stubble.
Also have been busy chopping corn stalks with the 4450.
Well thats all for now, comments and questions welcome!
