We have had a busy spring and just like every year we have more projects than we have time.
One of our landlords decided to put up a pivot and the first of February the work began. It all comes on one semi in many many pieces.
Here the crew is starting to assemble one span.
Adding the supports, axle and wheels.
Then they pull each span out to the pivot and attach. This one will have 7 towers when completed.
We then went to work hauling off our gravel from lane roads that will now be farmed under the sprinkler.
An excavation crew dug the holding pond for the water.
Here is the before.
Here is the after.
The concrete tower in the bottom is about 8ft tall.
Then there is the usual field work.
MX245 on the disc ripper.
MX245 on the heavy harrow.
We also do custom grinding. Here we are at a local feedlot.
Unfortunately in the early morning hours of April 27 several tornados touched down all around the area. The tornados moved through about 2am and caught most people off guard. No one was killed but 5 homes were totally destroyed.
Here is whats left of some trees along one of our farms.
A neighbors sprinkler was flipped. This is one of 8 that I know of being damaged.
Whats left of a abandoned hog farms sheds.
Then it was time to start planting corn.
MX245 pulling 30ft Sunflower soil finisher.
My job is planter man since no one else knows how to run the GPS.
MX180 and JD 7300 8 row planter.
I LOVE GPS!
We also got a large silage contract with a local feedlot of 3000ac of wheatlage. So we needed to upgrade the pickup headers. We traded our old pickup header and stripper head for 2 slightly used pickup heads.
Old heads leaving.
New ones arriving.
And last but not least. I have said it before and I will say it again. Women drivers, No survivors.
Thats all for now. Ill be back when I have time with pics of silage and first cutting alfalfa.
