I took these of the neighbor up the road from me. He mows hay for his own horses plus to sell to other horse owners. I saw him out in action the other weekend. So I got a few pics.
He uses a Ford 3000 similar to the one we own. I noticed he was using a 3 point hitch mounted side rake. I heard some good things about them on they rake very well. This was the first time I ever saw one in action. After seeing it in action well, I don't like it at all. For one your using a PTO just to run it. Next you can make turns too sharp for a baler to work with. And finally well you can clog up big time. Then have to back up and dig the clog out of the rake. All my raking I done with a pull rake. I stay with it. I never yet clog one of those up.
Pics of him all clogged up.
He baled with a Massey compact and Massey small square. This is the first time I got to see a inline square in action. At one time I was looking into one when we was looking for a newer baler for the hobby farm. But I decided to go with a name I can trust, New Holland. The Massey is a hydro and kinda small in my opinion for the baler. He had a hard time working up the windrows. This is one reason why the New Holland and Massey reps at the farm show said I need a Utility to work my hobby farm. Where your playing with a Compact of that size. On top of that my baler is a lot bigger too. Plus after looking at tractors. I stick with my Blues. Since Massey was overprice and lacking in features. Where New Holland had a offerings on features and a cheaper price.
