It hasn't been too busy around the farm this month. The usual chores of tending to the cattle. They are basically done with calving. Just a hand full of stragglers. They will be starting to fix fence and work the pairs to go to grass before to long. It is dry and some moisture would be welcome. The wheat would enjoy a drink. They went to a consignment sale up in NE that had a floater on it. Things were going cheap so they ended up getting it for 10.000 dollars. It is an 86ish IH with a 466 and automatic with around 5000 hours on it. They thought it was going cheap enough that they could do some fixing on it. They are pretty mechanical guys so they don't mind fixing if they can get a good deal. They wanted a floater because they could run faster and road speeds are faster. The 1270 and pull type works good but speed is not an option. They hired Minkler Farms Trucking to bring it home for them. They decided it would be cheaper to haul it than to wear the tires out on a long highway trip. Here is the truck pulling in.
Unloaded.
They put it in the shop so they could check it over and fix anything that needed fixing. They also wanted to change all of the fluids. They are going to see if they like it. If it works out they will probably sell their pull type. They will need to be spraying wheat pretty soon so they will find out.
The extremely wet fall caused a lot of ditches and broken terraces. They rented a scraper from Minkler Farms to do some repairs in the fields. They are hoping to fix the problems with out having to work the ground since they are no-till.
The also had to grind some hay. It has been a challenge to find a day when it was still enough to grind. They have Minkler Farms grind for them. This is the first time that the new grinder had been there. It keep them hopping keeping it full.
That is all for now. It is going to be getting busier before long. Questions and comments welcome.
