Ok I just got this in the mail and now time for the review. At first I wasn't sure about this combine. And was about to cancel the order. But decided to wait to see what the final version was. I was going to cancel it, but found out Bossen had already shipped it. Well I decided what the heck, if I don't like it. I'm sure someone would love to have it. Specially a kid wanting to combine something.
Granted I don't know much about IH combines. Just what little I have read on them. So I don't know what is fully accurate. Also I'm going by the many pics of them on TractorHouse and from my books.
The feeder house is plastic with metal tabs to hook up headers. And it can raise/lower as well. Nice feature but I can care less about the housing raise/lower. Since I don't hook up headers. The tires looks like they are from the older combines tires they used to use. However the rears they are new to me. The cab is nicely detailed, glad to see that interior. However the cab is sitting at an angle. Where it looks like its sunk down into the body. So this is one problem found. The bin is a chunk of plastic. So you can see it going down into the body. This is another problem as it created separation areas of body. I rather have that cast as part of the body. With a plastic top. Like they usually do combines. To give a better look. Next is the odd bin topper or what ever they call it. I have yet to see an IH 1460 with it. And it don't look like it would provide any function. Since the bins are fully open. And there is no detail of an auger going up that far to fill it. Unless this is some Euro add on I don't know about. So this is really not right. Next the engine area looks nice. They cast nice detail for the engine. And include the exhaust/intake pipes. The unloading auger is functional and it goes up wards to clear sides. Which I'm glad of that, as I hate dumping on the ground. The rear has detailed straw spreaders. Very nice how they did that. They are separate from the main cast of body. The ladder on the back is kinda missing. And the ladder to the cab reminds me of the older 1660/1666 combine. The rotary side screen is there as well. However I saw both types used on the pics. From my books it's silver. I guess this shows a replacement to replace the old one? Lastly the headers. They both are the same old worn out headers Ertl used from the early 1990s. Making them at least 20 years old. I'm very disappointed to see these again. As they don't even match up to the combine. And show Ertl being lazy on making better headers.
After seeing it. I decided to keep it for now. However I will cut off the stupid bin topper that serves no function. As for the headers well the 20fter I can use since I use that header anyways. However the 8 row will go in my spare box of parts. As I have no use for that header. Since they never made a good planter to match up to that header. Instead I will use my custom 6 row.
Just to let you know. Since Ertl reused the older crappy headers. Be ready for breakage. My grain header broke the tab soon as I put it on. Right out of the box! This is why I was pushing for Ertl to revise their Ertl hook up for headers. Due to this. Since they still hadn't really made a better version. I quit mounting headers to my combines. I only mounted this one to see how it mounts and the housing functions with it on.
Many said they like the combine, many said they hate it. Well to me its a toss up. Truth, I hoped for a better version on the IH combine most of us wanted to see for years. At least a header set to match the combine and current building trends. This combine is decent enough for me to keep.
