The weather has gotten really crappy now with blowing snow. So I was going through my photobucket site and saw a couple of wheat harvest pics from 2005. Until 2007, we ran Massey Ferguson combines. The one in the pictures is a 1980 model. It was probably the best one that we had. Since the mid-1980's we had a late model 510 and a 1984 550. On our last 550, we installed dual wheels on it. The purpose was to help stabilize is on some of our side hills that we have. Here is what is looked like up close. Now for it in action in wheat. Well, that makes me feel a bit warmer. Hope it does the same for others that are fighting the cold and snow.

Always nice to see MF combines. I dont know why our area is the only place to put front duals on the combines really. Was that always a Elbow lake area machine?

Jacob, we are straight north of Elbow Lake; we are 2 miles into Otter Tail county. Austin, we now run a Gleaner L2. Dad got tired of Masseys and the Massey dealer. When we bought this one in 2001, my dad acutally had a check written for a Gleaner M2, but backed out of the deal because he wasn't comfortable with it. We ended up junking out our old 550 to keep this one running. In 2007 Dad randomly ran across an auction ad for the L2 so we went to it, bidded on it, and got it for a really good price. I never thought we'd have a L2 because Dad thought that it would be too big. The bigger size machine is nice though. I do miss the duals. They made it ride much better and stabilized the machine. In 2004, the fall was really, really wet, kinda like last fall. Those duals help make that machine go through and not get stuck. It would be nice to dual up the L2, but the moneys gotta be spent elsewere.

what was the reason for getting rid of it? worn out? They hadnt been used in almost a decade. My great uncle was the only one left on the farm and he couldnt farm anymore so he rented all the ground. When he passed away in 2006 we had to start to get ready to sell the farm. we finally did it last spring and they sold them. we also sold a Oliver 25 (i think) and a cub. we didnt sell the oliver 1850, 476 IH, 500(i think) oliver, allis WC, or farmall demo cub the WC and cub got restored.

I actually have a pic of a dualed up L3. I think I found it in an ad a couple of years ago at a dealer near us. I so wish we could have had that machine.
