Well... It's early Nov, 5 deg (C), 40 mph wind blowing, the odd rain shower/snow flurry passing by...... must be time to band some fertilizer.
The plan was not to band a whole lot of ground. We were really more interested in hitching up the 9530 to the drill and make sure all the bugs are out of the system for spring. We had problems all last spring with the blockage system on the new drill so we had the local dealer back to try and solve the issue while there's still warranty. We're planning on 480 acres of canola next to the yard for next year so that's what we worked at. We were putting down 265lbs of 35-9-0-4.
The 9530 was fantastic up front. Really going to be a joy to run in the spring, especially when we start getting into some hills where the Steiger was struggling last year.
Neighbors haven't burned their flax piles yet. Note, the (now two) elevators of Congress off in the distance.
The fields are hard and dry this fall. Made for some stress on the drill. Neighbor who was out banding 2 miles away stopped by looking for some replacement openers as he was actually bending his from the hard ground (and rocks I'm sure). He's also banding with an old Coop imp cultivator which is a pretty rigid unit. On the good side, at least we were going through all the pot holes that were wet in the spring.
The old gas tandem got the call once again for fertilizer duty. Pretty hard to beat a tandem for efficiency over a semi when it comes to filling the cart.
