that looks interesting, my thought would be are the top tool boxes a separate piece? For what I would potentially do I would possibly want them farther back.

I could have my artist make two drawings, one attached, one separated. I think??? the detached cabinets might be more expensive due to the process I am using. Each printed item is a fee for material used plus a per item flat expense. Thanks for asking, I working hard to get new products that are very cool.

Look's pretty cool. The toolboxes look like they come down a little to far around the wheels. Have you thought of making opening cabinets? Or is that getting a little ridiculous? Keep us posted as this goes on!!

I'm testing this out. Right now I'm paying a guy to draw this bed up, then I have to pay for the printing. This will not be as inexpensive as resin but if the quality is as good as I expect it will be worth it. I have a complicated project in the cue I will tackle next. My goal is to see how far I can go with this process.

Keep us posted as this goes on!! The cabinets might look a little long but my customer wanted them level with the bottom of the tanks. I've wondered too about opening cabinets. I'm going to say imagination, time and money could make it happen. Yes I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

That's a nice looking drawing/bed. How long will it be?

That's a nice looking drawing/bed. How long will it be? The measurement I gave my artist is 19' or 3 1/2". The real bed is actually 20' or 3 3/4" in 1/64 scale. I was working from the model I hand made plus pics from the real one.

We have a 3d printer at the high school. It can make parts to the nearest thousandth of an inch. It's cartridrigages if I rember cost like $300. Anyways I think the service bed looks sweet!

I really like the look of that. Hope it turns out good for you. I've thought before about building a real version of that set up but without the top boxes and for a single axle (3ton) truck. Just a deck with everything underneath. Cool to actually see someone else who's gone that route.

Both have been replaced with Freighliner 4 door trucks with different service beds. I'm also building models of these as well. If there is a demand for it, I will have my artist save the file with out the upper cabinets. Eric

Just curious, what does the 3d printing and building cost? Just a ballpark guess. We built a few service body's back a few years. Still have one, Olsen's have two, and some other cutters have scratch built bodies from our shop. I ask dad why he doesn't build more, says it's easier and cheaper to just buy one.

Well Dallas the 3d printing isn't cheap, my teacher told me if I wanted to make a set of planter wings for an 8 row, it would be like $30. I don't know if he realized just how small they were or not, but he said the whole setup was like $6,000. It can get to the nearest thousandth of an inch. But I don't really have a clue what the beds would actually cost.

But I don't really have a clue what the beds would actually cost. You are correct about the the costs but they have come down. I'm using shapeways.com. The material I will use is $1.49 per cm cubed plus $1.50 per part (I can get it made out of stainless steel or titanium if you want..big $$). I'm only charged for the material used to make the part so complexity is irrelevant. It is worth while to find a great engineer to design the part so the least amount of material is used without compromising strength. This experiment I'm doing just to see how it works. My parts will not be cheap but with thousandths of an inch accuracy they should be freaking awesome when done. Check my thread with the final drawing pics. toyfarminllc.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=custom&thread=8760

We've got a laser cutter at our school, I'm not sure if it can do stuff like this tho. This is definately a nice addition to your business Eric. Will the real models have pintle hitches? I seen the pictures on your Facebook page, but wasn't sure if you where switching the hitches up to

So you could make combine trailers or other items from 12ga sheet metal. I have another company making my combine trailers doing what I described. I had not thought of the pintle hitch but will make a list of necessary changes and submit them all at once to keep my costs down. Thanks so much, I appreciate it.

So will this start out a block of steel and then get carved and cut out by the machine? I remember asking about cutting metal for a stainless steel piece on a truck hood last year cutting a wheathead out, and the teacher told me we can only cut certain types of metal with it. I'm not sure if we just needed more tools or what the deal was, we're still learning to use it
