Thinking more along the lines of Tobacco. I'm guessing it was probably used to spray the sucker control agent before or after topping. Looks very similar to this,

but he found it in northeast iowa and thats not reallly tobacco country but things do get moved around

A tobacco application was my first guess to, you see alot of frankensteined tractors around here for some type of tobacco work, one guy around here took an old JD sprayer and converted it into a machine to drop sticks (as we call it) between rows with, neat lookin machine.. But seeing as how its in Iowa I have no clue.. Seeing as how Duplin97 is from NC and I'm from Ky, both tobacco country, our mind will probably go there first..

We originally thought sprayer but a huge platform like that along with the fact that it was appearent time us the deck use to be wider is what is getting us as to what it was

I wonder with the height and size of the platform if it was used as a moving platform to harvest a taller crop, like some kind of fruit tree?
