Been a while, but I'm still alive. Anyhoo.... After a winter that looked like this.... Things have finally dried off a little and dirt is finally turning. There is a new farmer that's been working the fields around my house for the last 4 years, so you'll see some new equipment here. Burn off was sprayed back in January in the field around my house. They finally showed up to start tilling. Started with the Steiger 385 with the Wilrich cultivator. Next, on Sunday, I was behind this fella on the way home from church. This is an NH 325 Row Crop with the biggest Wilrich bedleveler I've ever seen. Had some problems. After the bedleveler, the old Magnum showed up with the roller. I wasn't able to get a picture of the new planter when it showed up because it showed up after dark and they planted until about 10:30pm. Luckily my friend works for the CaseiH dealer and got some shots of the new planter at work. It's a new model CIH Air Drill, they are the first around to have one. I went driving around to see what I can find. Found my cousin planting. Got to ride for a few minutes, but then he had to stop. Saw this one out today.

When the shoots get about 1-2 inches high, the flood is usually put on.

In a quick verson what do you all have to do to grow rice? im not real familiar with the process Nolan These days, most of the rice is dry planted with drills like the ones in the pics. The fields are sprayed with burnoff (this year that was done in January), cultivated, and planted. The levees are built along the contours of the land and the fields are flooded when the shoots become about 1-2 inches high. The flood is kept on until mid July. Then the levees are cut and the fields drained as the rice spends the last couple of weeks drying out and then it's ready to be cut.
