Spring's still a hold out so far this year but planning continues on for the upcoming season. One of the major area of the operation around the farm for this year in need of some major upgrading was the service truck. The old cobbled together 90 Chev finally drove it's last mile back in late Feb. It's 305 engine had been laboring pretty hard for the past few years and I've done what I could (within reason) of keeping it going but last spring it started foaming up in the rad and we knew "the end was near". Limping through the rest of the season, was a feat but we did it. In Feb I tried to get 6 more miles out of it to get to the secondary bin yard to fix the grain vac. By the time I got to the final corner it didn't have enough left in it to pull into the yard and I had to walk the rest of the way tools in hand....
About a week later I stumbled across the 08 Dodge 3500 pictured below and within a couple days, a deal was made and I drove it home. A month of waiting for tool boxes, tanks, and ideas, this is what we came up with over the past couple weeks.
The baseline truck. 3500, 4x4, hemi, 6spd std, 8'x10' deck
Beside our other farm truck 08 Power Wagon
We decided first off that the deck needed an overhaul.
The deck was sprayed with boxliner/rocker guard as well as the lower rockers of the truck itself.
As of yesterday. We still need to finish wiring the diesel pump and the electric start on the air compressor. As well as get the remainder of the parts and tools swapped over. The green box is a John Deere labeled Montezuma road box, there's 3 IPC/International road boxes for tools, parts, nuts, bolts, etc... The rear boxes are Buyers open cabnets for oil/fluids, cables, chains, etc... The fuel tank is 250gal with a 20gpm pump. 18cfm @100psi 2 stage air compressor behind that.
The out-casted unit:
