Cotton Harvest - Part 4

This part of the Cotton Harvest series I'm doing. Will show how cotton was harvested from the 1950s and into the 1960s. Back in those days cotton pickers was just coming around. Most was mounted on the tractor. The tractor has the transmission gears reversed so it could go backwards at different speeds. Extended linkages, and shafts helped control the picker using the tractor.

Here is some views from the driver's seat. As you can see they was very simple to operate. Compared to your modern equipment.





Some views of the picker. As you can see even the older ones still has the spindle and doffer designs. Which hadn't changed much even on modern pickers.




Picking cotton time. Note back in the day they made it so the driver could stand and still work the equipment if he/she wanted to.






Time to unload.

If I could find a picker like that in that kind of shape... did he restore it? Story behind it?

The farmer bought 2 of them brand new. And he still has them. However he now has a 9930 picker the one with the wide axle. I showed in the last series of pics. He just kept them in good shape and likes to get them out once in a while to pick with. He did however restored his old John Deere 600 Hi Cycle sprayer.

Your right you don't find many at all like this anymore. Most was removed of the picker, gears turned around and used as tractors again.
