www.farmtoysforfun.com/GleanerS88CombineSilver.jpg www.farmtoysforfun.com/GleanerS88CombineBlack.jpg Got a phone call from Trevin and Beth at Farm toys for Fun this morning, the New Gleaner S88's in 1/64th are OUT! Suppose to be shipping these beauties this week some time. I am really happy to see that they corrected the paint scheme on the black wrap version, looks a lot more correct. I think Spec Cast hit a home run with these models. Can't wait to get the 64th S78 Gleaner in August to go with these beauties. Great job Spec Cast!!

I plan to get one and first thing I will do is take some nail polish remover and get that decal off the rear housing. I hate when companies do that, just put it on the bottom or use special packaging. Hopefully the NPR works without damaging the black paint.

NPR should work to remove the wording, I don't think it will damage the paint very much. Man I am excited to get these new 1/64th Gleaners. Can't wait to get one in my hands to inspect it. Hopefully this combine goes over well, that we will see more combines( and perhaps vintage combines) from Spec Cast in the future. These should be on par detail wise with the Case IH Authentic 7088 from ERTL or close to it. Looks great from the photo's any how.

When I looked at the prototype in D ville it appeared to have some photoetched parts, like I see in the 1/18 diecast world. I think that would be a first for a mass produced 1/64 farm toy? I too am very excited to get one, plus these will sell quickly so all the more reason to pull the trigger!!

I would say, coming from the initial release of the 1/64th AGCO tractors from Spec Cast from a few years ago, when everyone was complaining about lack of cab glass in them, to these awesome looking 1/64th Gleaners, Spec Cast is coming a long ways in 1/64th, especially with putting more detail and effort into their models. Mind you, I was still pretty happy with the AGCO DT series that Spec Cast put out a few years back. Really excited to see the new Challengers, the MF 8700 series tractors and the RoGator on the way from Spec Cast as well. They are also suppose to be highly detailed as well. Great year for toys.

Just picked mine up at a dealership and it is a wonderful piece very well done mostly diecast. The header is just plastic and appears to be the same exact one ertl used with the A86? The feederhouse moves a little and is plastic. Decals are excellent as is the paint. Maybe the hopper could be a bit deeper? The screens are Photo etch pieces and the interior is well done. The auger may be a little brittle and tight so use some caution moving it, do so near the pivot point NOT the tip. Otherwise a brilliant piece for 53 dollars well done spec cast. I have not had it put of the box for even 10 minutes so no pics yet, plus I have not even tried to post pics on here yet. I highly recommend both of them as I saw the black unit as well. Get one fast as I fear these will get very collectible and expensive.

Josh,
Do you have the 64th A86 as well? If so, could you see if the flex head from the A86 will fit the S88? Not sure when mine will get here yet from Farm toys for fun. But I suspect it might work. The 64th S78 Gleaner coming this summer should be very nice as well.

The auger works fine but it is long and made of what seems like a brittle material so I was just warning people to be careful.
The header from the A86 is identical to the one packaged here, with the S88. A little brighter silver but otherwise identical so yes it will fit on the S88, however putting the header into place is a risky move as the feederhouse is the most delicate part, and it is hard to hold the toy in a way that makes you feel comfortable as there are fragile parts on both sides and the rear. the rear steer works very well. I do wish it had a GPS unit however.

Yeah, I am surprised it does not have the GPS dome on it either, but neither does the 1/64th Gleaner A86. Its likely they had to save some $$ to keep the cost of the combine down, which would be a reason for it being omitted. However, they will be using the 1/64th Gleaner tooling to do the S78 coming in Aug, so they could possibly add it then maybe. None the less, I still think that Spec Cast out did ERTL with the S88 vs. the A86. We shall see for sure when I get my hands on one for my self. been waiting a long time for a NEW Trans verse Rotary Gleaner in 1/64th. The C62 and A86 were nice to see made, with one being conventional and the latter being the Axial Rotary.

Tried the Grain head from the 64th A86 Gleaner this morning on my newly picked up S88 Gleaners. Works just fine, and as you mentioned Josh are identical heads. I think the same factory in China produced the same heads for the S88 and the A86 Gleaner. Overall, a very nicely done combine, not a perfect model but still like it better then the A86. Detail wise, very nicely done. Only the CIH 64th 7088 CIH combine is slightly better detail wise, but not much. Definitely, the S88 Gleaner is better then the Deere S690 Authentic that was done, again just my opinion. Generally, very impressed with the S88 Gleaner in 64th. Can't wait to get the 64th S78 Gleaner this summer.

I'm glad the header will fit, as I was going to use the flex from the A85/86 I have. However I won't fully hook it up, since my luck is bad about the mounts breaking.

Sam, you will be fine hooking up the grain head to the S88, the tabs on the headers are a lot more sturdy compared to the grain heads that came with 64th combines in the 1990's. They have really improved on how the heads are hooked up. I will use the A86 grain head on my S88 until the arrival of the S78 Gleaner this summer with the draper head. In the mean time though, Spec Cast did a really nice job on these combines. Jason

Most Greenlights, ERTL, Auto World, and Norev models are made at the same factory. www.modelcar8.com/
