Just wondered how everyone's wheat is looking. Ours is so drought stressed that the heads are emerging prematurely. it's making some of us nervous because last Tuesday we hit 27 degrees. We figure harvest will be at least two weeks early.

Ours is really looking good. Nice warm temps and lots of rain. Rye grew up over 6ft. I bet at least around 6.5ft. Since it was a good few inches above my head. And I stand at 6.2ft. I know it made good straw when they mowed it down. Rye is grown for straw around here, not for the seed.

The wheat is looking pretty rough here. It is starting to turn blue from the drought stress. It is going to start burning up here pretty quick. It is pretty thin as well. If we don't get some rain we won't have much to cut around here. Plus it was 97 degrees here today too. That isn't helping any.

We just finished planting our wheat on Friday. That is about two weeks later than average and three weeks later than last year. Hope those of you in the winter wheat belt have a decent crop.

Most of ours is headed and very thin and stressed. We haven't had much precipitation since it was planted and it's real spotty in some areas. Go south, east, or north and everyone seems to have good wheat for the year but I guess it's just our turn. Alot of our Pawnee county wheat we probably just won't cut and just try to plant beans into it IF we got some moisture. If not we might have it in summerfallow till next spring.
Our stuff in Barton and Stafford county is a bit better but not much to brag about. Probably looking at 10-15bpa. We have 5 circles in wheat, those should do well. Anywhere from 40-80bpa on them depending on the circle.
Been windy and around the 100 degree mark for the last couple days so that definately ain't helping any.

Ours is still holding on pretty good. Things change drastically from field to field because the rain has been so spotty. The fields around the house got about 1.5" of rain 2 weeks ago, elsewhere they got less than that. I think if the rain keeps coming we can hold out. I can not say the same for the neighbors who do continuous wheat or those who do not summerfallow like we do.
It is currently about 12-16" tall and looking good for the most part. Head south of here a ways and a lot of fields have not even came up.

It was 98 degrees with a 30 mph south wind here today. A lot of fields have turned from blue to grey and white today. It is starting to put out heads because it is so stressed. It is so poor you can see the ground from the road in most fields which you usually can't do this time of year. We need rain really soon or wheat harvest is going to be bad here. It may be too late for some of it. Some of the worst looking wheat I can remember for this time of year.

Wheat around Dodge is pretty spotty. No significant moisture since July 2010?? Took a road trip to Texas over the weekend and you can see the dirt between the rows in some fields. Much wheat from Bucklin to Woodward OK is being either grazed, baled, or chopped.
Did see a few cutters moving machinery though.

The rain ain't gonna help much for the wheat now, but we'll be abled to start planting dryland beans and corn. It's still something to celebrate about though. Trey

We got about 2 inches this week. Things are looking a lot better. My buddy lives in the next county over and he had 4.30 in his gauge this morning and they caught it again this evening.
